I have built and run award-winning businesses in Newfoundland and British Columbia.  The combination of small business experience, financial planning for up to four family companies, and access to the expertise and products from Canada's major life insurance providers, puts me in a unique position to help my clients.

Woof Design was the largest cottage industry in Newfoundland when I won the exporter of the year award in 1988.  Sold in 1994, this company continues to thrive.  Setting up Newfoundland to Nanaimo, the Canadiana gift store on the Nanaimo waterfront, won me the first Athena Award for entrepreneurship.  I sold this store in July of 1999.

One challenge that has been constant through my career has been the attempt to manage personal affairs as well as business.  I have concluded that we rarely apply the same planning and diligence to our own financial health and security.  Having struggled to add value to the advice from my accountants and lawyers, I decided to develop a financial service practice that could help others.

I offer:

  • A service of developing or reviewing personal financial plans;
  • Persuasive arguments for protecting your financial security through personal disability or critical illness insurance;
  • Refinement, consolidation or development of life insurance strategies to take account of short-term, long-term and estate planning needs;
  • RRSP, RRIF and annuities in segregated funds that offer some guarantees and creditor proofing not available in mutual funds;
  • Advice on the value of RESP's and how to set them up.

For small business operators, I offer:

  • Insurance tools and access to specialists to advise on business partnerships, business continuity and exit strategies;
  • Help in setting up key person insurance, overhead protection or group benefits.

For the wealthy client, I offer:

  • Help with, and access to specialist advisors on, estate planning;
  • Use of life insurance to preserve property or inheritances by planning for tax payment;
  • Setting up tax favoured bequests to preferred charities;
  • Access to segregated funds as an insured vehicle for investment and intergenerational transfer.

I am not a substitute for legal and accounting advice, but can add value to these services.  My practice is supported by financial planning for fee, by commissions earned, if clients choose to purchase insurance and savings products through me, or when satisfied clients refer their peers to me for help  I am an independent broker who works for you the client.
